Jennifer "Fennie" Buchanan
Our dear friend Jennifer Buchanan, also known as “Fennie”, is a single mom that recently decided to go back to school, while trying to maintaining 2 part time jobs to pay the bills and provide for her and her daughter Ashlin. During her first semester back at school she got very ill which landed her in the ER several times with severe pains, where she underwent numerous tests. We are very grateful for this because they were able to find the tumor and test it.
Right before Christmas she was diagnosed with pancreatic endocrine cancer and has recently undergone surgery to remove her spleen, 1/3 of her pancreas, and the cancerous tumor. The surgery on January 3rd was a success per her surgeon, but her recovery has been rough. She was lucky because they were able to find the Cancer at an early stage. Unfortunately, immediately after her surgery she developed pneumonia and has been in and out of the ER and Dr’s offices. Currently Jen is at home recovering, but will not be able to resume work till the middle or end of March at the earliest. Eventually Jen would love to return to school so that she can reach her dream of being a Nurse and be able to provide a better life for herself and her daughter.
We have set up this site to try and assist her and her family in this time of need. We are very grateful for all those that have helped already with donations and dinners, but much more is needed. Due to her not having insurance and being out of work for 4-5 months the bills are piling up. Jennifer still has several weeks of recovery without being able to work. Once she has recovered from that procedure she will need to be extremely careful not to get sick. When you have your spleen removed, your immune system is very weak and you are susceptible to many illnesses. She has been told that basically her immune system is like that of a newborn and illnesses, such as pneumonia and strep throat will put her in the hospital and can be fatal.
Life constantly throws each one of us curveballs and it is only through our faith and the love and compassion of our friends and family that we are able to successfully make it thru. Thank you!!
